  1.  Phnom Penh Animal Welfare Society

Phnom Penh Animal Welfare Society (PPAWS) was founded by an English lady, a teacher by profession called Nicola Scales and all from a desire to make a difference to the challenging lives and conditions facing animals in Cambodia.

Armed with this strong wish to try to make tangible improvements in the Welfare of Animals, Nicola founded PPAWS in 2011 in the Country’s Capital, Phnom Penh. With the help of many Khmer and Expatriate Animal lovers, all with a common wish to try to improve the lives of animals and, in particular, the many homeless and stray Cats and Dogs in Phnom Penh, the organisation started. Focusing on providing medical care to improve the well-being of animals wherever they could they also started trying to educate people on responsible pet ownership and, welfare.

2. Animal Rescue Cambodia

It all began in 2016 when the founder, Tina Mayr, spotted a terribly neglected dog living within the grounds of a high school in Phnom Penh. He was suffering from several health issues and had difficulty walking, as his fur had grown uncontrollably due to years of neglect.

Tina was truly shocked, not only by his appearance, but also by the indifference of the students and their unwillingness to help the dog. She reached out to local clinics in Cambodia but the scale of the problem far overwhelmed their capacity.

Through this experience, Tina was inspired to establish Animal Rescue Cambodia, and since then the Animal Rescue Cambodia operate under the following principle:

“I used to say: ‘Somebody should do something about that.’ Then I realized, I am somebody.”

The dog, Henry, had a full recovery and is now our resident and an honorary Animal Rescue Cambodia ‘ambassadog’.

3. Cambodia Animals Protection Association
